LYNX Prepares for Local Operator and Maintenance Roadeo

After a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19 the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) bus operators and maintenance teams and paratransit operators and mechanics will begin their quest to earn local, state and international recognition in the 2023 local Roadeo championship. The local competition will be held 10 a.m. Feb. 18 at the LYNX Operations Center (LOC). The event is closed to the public.

Bus and ACCESS LYNX (paratransit) operators and maintenance teams will be put through physical and mental challenges testing their everyday workplace skills. Technicians will locate and troubleshoot planted defects on a bus, in an engine, in the A/C system and in the air brake system. Operators also will also identify defects in a bus and then drive though a challenging obstacle course while being timed and judged in safety habits.

LYNX will host winners from other Florida transit agencies at the Florida Triple Crown Bus Roadeo on April 1. This training exercise will be sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Public Transportation Association.

On May 20, the state champion bus maintenance and operator team and paratransit operator will head to Oklahoma City for an international bus Roadeo.
