LYNX Announces Winners for 12th Annual Public Service Bus Contest

Organizations that support reading and literacy, at- risk children and financial hardship will be featured on the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) 2013-14 Public Service Bus.

City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and LYNX Chief Executive Officer John M. Lewis Jr. will unveil the bus at 10 a.m. April 16 outside the Amway Center Church Street entrance.

The eight winning organizations will have their logos placed on a LYNX bus for the next 12 months. The bus will travel regular routes throughout the LYNX system, providing these organizations with free exposure in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties.

The winners were selected in a random drawing of 81 entries from non-profit organizations that have 501(c)(3) status and operate on budgets of less than $1 million.

LYNX 2013-14 Public Service Bus Contest Winners:

Brian Christopher Lainer Wings of Hope Foundation of Sanford assists at-risk children as well as young adults who turn 18 and "age out of the system."

The Celebration Foundation strives to promote and conduct community-building activities in Celebration through a variety of volunteer, civic and educational opportunities.

The Florida Literacy Coalition promotes, supports and advocates for the effective delivery of quality adult and family literacy services in the state of Florida. They are based in Orlando.

The Friends of the Orange County Library System supports the library by enhancing resources, innovations and services for the public.

Market Colors is an Orlando based organization dedicated to mitigating financial hardships and improving the quality of life of the impoverished in Africa.

Recovery House of Central Florida reduces homelessness and addiction in Seminole County by empowering and equipping men to become sober and self-sufficient members of society.

Ribbon Riders, based in Lake Mary, provides emergency financial assistance to breast cancer patients in Central Florida while the patient is undergoing treatment.

Winter Park Day Nursery works to build a stronger community by filling Central Florida's need for high-quality, affordable childcare and preschool education for low-income working parents.
