15th Annual Public Service Bus Contest Winners
Organizations that support animal welfare, deployed service members and substance abuse are among 15 non-profit agencies to be featured on the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) 2016-17 Public Service Bus.
Orange County Mayor and LYNX Chair Teresa Jacobs and LYNX Interim Chief Executive Officer/General Manager Susan Black will unveil the bus 9 a.m. April 20 at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
All organizations will receive free exposure by having their logos placed on a LYNX bus traveling Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties for the next 12 months. A 15th logo from eligible entries has been added to the bus rear panel through an essay contest where the submitting organization shared their story in 500 words or less about how they help the Central Florida community. This will be unveiled at the event. The winning organization will have its story brought to life with a short promotional video produced by LYNX.
Each winner was selected in a random drawing of 48 eligible entries with 501(c)(3) status and operate on budgets of less than $1 million annually.

Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center in Orlando is Central Florida’s community resource for families and professional caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias through education, advocacy, research opportunities and compassionate support.
Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge in Orlando rescues, raises, rehabilitates, and releases injured or orphaned Florida native species and provides education about respecting and preserving the environment.
Dancing for Diabetes spreads awareness through the art of dance to better educate the community, raise funds to find a cure and inspire those with diabetes to live healthy and active lives. They are based in Sanford.
Do Good Farm provides sustainable farming to feed people in need locally and teaches people to do it around the world. They are based in Winter Garden.
Franklin’s Friends of Maitland supports Central Florida animal welfare by fundraising for local nonprofit and government agencies that are dedicated to shelter/rescue, spay/neuter or community education programs.
Freedom Ride of Orlando enriches the lives and experiences of individuals with disabilities in the Central Florida area through therapeutic horse riding and related activities.
Just Our Soldiers’ Helpers Inc. (J.O.S.H.) in Lake Mary exists to provide encouragement and support to deployed service members from all branches of the U.S. Military by preparing and shipping care packages consisting of snacks, food, hygiene products and other necessities to them.
Inspire of Central Florida of Casselberry provides vocational training services for individuals with various developmental disabilities to prepare individuals for competitive employment and increase their individual levels of independence.
The Lifeboat Project in Apopka offers services for survivors of human trafficking, by restoring hope to exploited individuals through self-sufficiency, safe residency and counseling.
St. Cloud Main Street promotes economic development and historic preservation in downtown St. Cloud.
Second Chance Resource Center from Winter Garden provides single parents with diapers, baby food, children’s clothing and other basic baby essentials at no cost.
Seminole Prevention Coalition from Sanford connects non-profit, governmental, community-based organizations, law enforcement, local businesses and citizens to strengthen Seminole County youth and families through the promotion of substance and alcohol abuse education.
SNiP-it of Central Florida operates a high volume, low cost spay/neuter clinic.
The Visot Foundation from Kissimmee provides children the opportunity to enjoy and experience extracurricular activities including sports, music and the arts.
Yellow Brick Road: The Holden Flynn Foundation of Orlando commits its resources and efforts to increasing the exposure and awareness of congenital heart defects (CHDs), the world’s most common and deadly birth defect, while providing assistance and support to families of hospitalized children with CHDs.
