LYNX Prepares to Host State Roadeo
The Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) will host the 2012 Florida State Bus Roadeo 9 a.m. March 24 at the LYNX Operations Center (LOC). Headlining the host agency’s participation will be Operator Pablo Perez, a three-time local winner and the defending international champion bus operator.
Operators and maintenance teams from10 public transit agencies across Florida will compete in physical and mental challenges testing their everyday workplace skills. Technicians will locate and troubleshoot planted defects on a bus, in an engine, in the A/C system and in the air brake system. Operators will identify bus defects and drive though a challenging obstacle course while being timed and judged in safety habits. The state event will be sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation and Florida Public Transportation Association (FPTA).
In May, the state champion maintenance team and bus operator (Team Florida) will head to Long Beach, Calif., for the American Public Transportation Association’s International Bus Roadeo. The training exercise will be sponsored by the FPTA.
