LYNX to Receive $9.39 Million Federal Transit Administration Grant

September 23, 2014

LYNX has been notified it will receive a Ladders of Opportunity Grant for $9.39 million from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

The funding when distributed will amount to nearly 10 percent of the overall $100 million awarded by the FTA in the nationwide initiative.

LYNX will use the grant to construct a SuperStop in the Pine Hills community, a multi-bus bay transfer structure, at a to be determined site and purchase eight additional 60-foot articulated buses.

Support from U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown (D-Fla. 5) and U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla. 9) was crucial to the grant application's success.

"All of us here in the Central Florida community are grateful that our congressional delegation and the FTA have recognized the importance of these projects," said LYNX CEO John M. Lewis Jr.  "Now the West Orange community will have access to a much needed and safe transfer facility, and by purchasing new articulated vehicles we can transport more riders to jobs or wherever they desire to travel more quickly and at a lower operating cost."

The FTA Ladders of Opportunity is a capital program focusing on enhancing access to jobs, providing more transportation choices to the public and supporting economic opportunities or partnerships.
