The agency grew steadily for several decades until the name LYNX was chosen in 1992. That name replaced Tri-County Transit, which the Board of Directors thought might put unnecessary limitations on future growth of the system.
LYNX Chief Executive Officer Linda Watson was hired by the Board of Directors in June of 2004 and the agency’s current downtown terminal – LYNX Central Station – was opened later that year. Since then, a new operations and maintenance facility, dubbed
LYNX operates a fleet of 290 buses on 65 routes, called Links, and has service every day of the year. LYNX provided a record 26 million passenger trips in 2007. That marks the 24th time in the past 25 years that a ridership record has been broken.
