Alma Mater Selects LYNX CEO as Distinguished Alumna

ORLANDO, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2009) – The Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) chief executive officer has been honored by the University of Texas at Arlington at the 44th Distinguished Alumni Gala.

Linda S. Watson was one of nine alumni to be honored at the Oct. 17 event. She received her bachelor’s degree in political science from the College of Liberal Arts and her master’s degree in urban and regional affairs from the School of Urban and Public Affairs. Her daughter also is a UT Arlington alumna.

Watson has more than 20 years of transportation related experience.  Before making her mark in Central Florida, she served as the General Manager of the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority from 1996 to 2004 and also was the Assistant General Manager of the Fort Worth Transportation Authority. 

The LYNX CEO is a member of the External Advisory Board for the University of Florida’s  Center for Multimodal Solutions for Congestion Mitigation, the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and is a past chair of the organization; the Transportation Research Analysis Council that advises the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) on national research; is a lifetime National Associate of the National Research Council of the National Academies of Science; and serves on the board of the Mennello Museum of American Art.

The Distinguished Alumni Award, established in 1965, is the highest honor given by the University and the Alumni Association. The award honors individual achievements, contributions to industry or profession, community service and demonstrated loyalty to UT Arlington.

The gala generates significant scholarship funds for students. Since 2002, the event has raised more than $100,000 for scholarships.
